Zoom! Tooth Whitening System, from £225 at The Darfoor Dental Practice
As a coffee lover and occasional smoker I have long since worried about the state of my smile. Nicotine, caffeine and alcohol can play havoc with your pearly whites and mine weren’t looking to gleaming. So after much salivating over Cheryl Cole’s ever-white smile I decided something had to be done and so I paid a visit to Dr Simon Darfoor at The Darfoor Dental Practice, one of the UK’s leading specialists in bespoke teeth whitening treatments.
Based at the prestigious address of 1 Harley Street, Darfoor counts numerous celebrities and a-list stars amongst his clientele. Known for his use of the revolutionary “Zoom!” Tooth Whitening System, Darfoor can whiten teeth by up to nine times in just one sitting.
After a detailed consultation with Darfoor in which he denoted the shade and condition of my teeth, he told me a little more about what the process would involve. “Hydrogen peroxide, a photo-sensitive gel that penetrates through your enamel effectively whitening it, is the material of choice used to obtain whiter teeth, “ he said. “Laser whitening is done in surgery with a stronger concentration of hydrogen peroxide. This is carried out under isolated conditions and with a special light to speed up the whitening process,” he added.
Sounded simple enough and I was amazed at just how quick and easy it indeed was. The process was quick and not at all painful, although for those with very sensitive teeth can experience some slight twinges. A plastic guard was applied to keep my mouth open, then a paste to protect my gums and finally the peroxide gel, after which the “Zoom!” light was placed on my teeth for two, fifteen-minute cycles. All this in a lunch-hour.
The result? Literally jaw dropping! My teeth are noticeably whiter and healthier looking, most of the staining has gone and they look striking, although not in a false way. It’s a subtle but life changing difference and I would definitely recommend it. “The results are not permanent,” Darfoor warned me, “The treatment can last from six months to three years depending on the colour of your teeth, lifestyle habits and if you follow up with maintenance bleaching.”
Well that’s certainly not a problem for me as I am hooked. After an hour with Darfoor, Cheryl had better watch out as there’s a new set of gleaming teeth on the fashion block and I intend to show them off at every stylish event from here on in!
